Sterling Silver Guide

Timeless shine, designed for everyday wear.

Sterling silver is a precious-metal alloy valued for its bright finish, versatility and durability. At VARELTI, selected designs are crafted in S925 sterling silver and may be finished in silver, yellow-gold or rose-gold tones as stated on each product page.

What Is S925 Sterling Silver?

S925 sterling silver contains 92.5% pure silver, combined with 7.5% other metals to improve strength and wearability. The “925” or “S925” mark indicates this standard composition.

Finishes and Color

Sterling silver may have a polished silver finish or a plated color finish. Yellow-gold and rose-gold colors are surface finishes rather than solid gold unless the product details specifically state otherwise. Plating naturally changes with wear and may require professional replating over time.

Why Sterling Silver Can Tarnish

Tarnishing is a natural surface reaction caused by contact with air, moisture, skin oils, cosmetics and household chemicals. It does not mean the silver is defective. Regular gentle cleaning and proper storage help maintain its brightness.

How to Care for Sterling Silver

  • Remove jewelry before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping.
  • Avoid perfume, lotion, hairspray, chlorine and household cleaners.
  • After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Store pieces separately in a dry, sealed pouch or jewelry box.
  • Use only cleaning methods recommended for the specific stones and finish.

Sensitive Skin

Skin sensitivity varies by person. Review each product’s material disclosure before purchase, especially if you have a known metal allergy. Discontinue wear if irritation occurs and consult a qualified professional if needed.
